Well it’s getting to that time of year, when we need to start thinking about getting our homes winter ready. We have for the past few years had very severe winters, so it is really starting to dawn on us that we need to be more prepared than we used to be. People in Ireland have had so many problems with burst pipes, flooding, getting snowed in and icy conditions that house maintenance is becoming a vital part of getting Winter prepared. Heating is one of the more vital parts of Winter and keeping ourselves warm, so it’s worth ensuring your heating systems are maintained. Some of the things to keep in mind are :
You can plan to have your gas boiler, oil boiler or back boiler serviced in time for the Winter. Central Heating has to be a prority for all of us. If we are snowed in, well at least we can keep warm. Having a cosy fire can help us to cope with being house bound. So then of course general maintenance work should be on our “to do” list also, including chimney cleaning. Finding a good chimney cleaner is a great find.
Check out our list here at rentandhire.ie of services available for you to hire to get yourself Winter Ready. It’s always a good and safe idea to call in the experts.
Also have a look at a great Irish website, launched by the Irish Government called http://www.winterready.ie/ where they give practical advice on Road Safety, your Health, Farming Community, Business Sector, Transport and of course your Home for the coming cold months ahead.
Keep warm and safe this Winter!
Living in a house there is so much I have to do before winter that I sometimes spend the whole days repairing things and cleaning the spots that I usually neglect throughout the year. Above all, it is the maintenance of my fireplace that requires special treatment if I want it to work properly so that my family can enjoy the warm glow of a fire on a cold winter night . Another place that deserves particular attention when preparing my own home for winter is the attic. It usually takes me a lot of time to get rid of the unnecessary stuff that I usually keep there but the effort is always worth it. You wouldn’t believe it but even a little nest built by birds living there during the summer months can cause considerable damage to the insulation which is later reflected in your heating and air conditioning bills.
Lots of helpful information. I have bookmarked your site.
